National Bird of Belize

A description of the National Bird of the country of Belize

The national bird of Belize is the Ramphastos Solfurantus, also known as the Keel Billed Toucan. It has a large canoe shapped bill and bright green, blue, red, and orange feathers. It is typically about 20 inches long. Its body is most black with a bright hellow chest, red under the tail, and a white patch at the base of the tail. They are typically found in large trees in open areas of Belize. They make a repetitive frog-like croaking sound. They eat fruit, and the nest in tre holes. They lay 2 to 4 eggs which are incubated by both parents. Eggs take 6 or 7 weeks to hatch.
